The price of building, furnishing, and maintaining a home is continuing to mount.
According to the National Association of Home Builders, from 2022 to 2024 the average construction cost of a single-family home grew by over 9%, or around $36,000.
A 2025 Associated General Contractors of America survey stated that nearly 40 percent of contractors reported that they expect materials costs to climb further in the months ahead. The price-to-income ratio hit an all-time high in 2024, with the national median single-family home price being five times the median household income according to the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University.
We understand that the current market is challenging for everyone, and we want to assure you that our prices won’t be rising. Our products are sourced or donated by local businesses and community members, making it easier for us to keep costs down compared to similar retailers who outsource their products. We will continue to maintain the quality of products we accept and sell and uphold the same standards that we have had for decades.
Habitat for Humanity's vision is that of a world where everyone has a decent place to live; it would be impossible to make said vision a reality without keeping our prices affordable for everyone. We appreciate your unending support in the face of an everchanging economy and rising costs.
